I happened to catch the trailer for Jim Carrey’s new movie last night. Don’t think I’m going to be spending the time to go see it, but the title did get me thinking. “Yes.”
I wonder how many leaders in the church have a “yes” mentality and how many run the opposite direction? I’m not talking moral compromise here. I’m talking willingness to innovate, to embrace a new method of sharing an ancient message. I’m talking the desire to empower others. To see people pursue their God given dreams.
We need those kind of “yes” people leading the church. Not “no” people.
Does that make any sense? Would love your thoughts on this.
Absolutely, we need people willing to innovate and experiment with their methodology in order to be as effective as possible. These people keep us “real” and push us further in the ministry.
However, and just speaking from observation, the danger in this mentality is straying away from the Church’s focus and goals. It’s so basic, but when the Church forgets the consistent power of the Gospel, all efforts are going to crumble. When we forget that God, the coordinator of this deal, hasn’t been changing His methods too much in the last few thousand years, we lose sight of our purpose.
So, yes, I am all for innovation as long as it is in the spirit of 1 Thes. 5:19-22 and with the reminder of so many who have gone out into the world with nothing but the Gospel and God’s love and seen it changed.
Now…did that make any sense?!
