Joy

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. – Luke 2: 10-11

Good news. Great joy. All people. A Savior. Christ. The Lord.

The Scriptures can only tell the story of Christmas in the language of celebration. You can almost hear the joy rippling in the voice of the angel who announced the arrival of the Prince of Peace. Yes! The world’s Rescuer has come. This Infinite One would change the world. He was the One history’s crescendo had been building towards. And no one was created to miss out on it. Every corner of the globe and every crevice of our hearts was made to know the joy this good news brought.

The same birth should bring us the same joy.

I know, it seems like so many days the world conspires to strangle the joy right out of life. We get so focused on the hard, the painful and the uncertain that we miss out on the joy that’s meant to be ours.

Here’s a challenging truth. Followers of Jesus should be the most joy filled people on the planet. We live in the party that is eternity. God knows us and loves us. We’re part of a multi-national family growing by the second. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. There’s always hope for ones who are at peace with God.

I pray today you fight for that joy. Meditate on this King. Think about His promises. Remember is faithfulness. And let your heart run to the joy it was made to know.

Joy to the world. The Lord has come.

Thanks for this post John. I read it after Christmas, but still was really encouraged by it to live the joy of God’s gift through my life. I always enjoy your blog posts!
