An Undeniable Positive

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. – Romans 12:21

One of the dreams we had years ago when The Gathering first started serving on the campuses of DC was that we would become “an undeniably positive” influence on the campus. It really was and is one of our outreach strategies: do enough good on the campus that we earned the right to tell people why we serve. We do it all for the fame of Jesus, that the world would know there is a Son of God who reigns today offering life, hope and eternity to all who would believe.

This week I was so encouraged to see students rising up into the challenge to “overcome evil with good.” Between George Mason and The University of Maryland, 48 students said they wanted to spend their spring break in Haiti bringing Hope to the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. I love that so much – forget the Daytona party scene, these kids are going to have the best spring break of their lives!

And tomorrow we’re all headed down to serve as part of the Turkey Outreach at World Mission Extension Center. We’re expecting over 75 Gathering students to be there. Yeah, I know it’s early (8AM start) and I know it’s cold (low 40′s) and I know it’s the end of the semester, but I also know it’s going to be so worth it. How beautiful that we can provide Thanksgiving meals to families who wouldn’t have one any other way. By the way, if you want to join us tomorrow, you still can. By God’s grace, we’re moving closer every week to being the undeniably positive force God is calling us to be. I love being on the ride with each of you.

See you tomorrow,
John
