My Night at AU

I’ve been really pressed for time to blog recently and hope I’ll be able to make up for it in the coming days. But I had to take advantage of a few free moments this morning to post in response to last night’s Bible study at the Starbucks on New Mexico Ave. It was an absolutely amazing time and I really enjoyed being there with the students, leaders and Joe Cope as he taught.

I loved the conversations. I loved seeing students enjoy the reality that you can devote an hour and 15 minutes to a passage in Scripture and still have more to say. But I really loved watching the reaction of people as they walked by and saw a full on Bible study packing this Starbucks lounge. I absolutely love it when the church breaks out of our walls. I love it when we’re not confined in some sort of cultural isolation. I love it when we’re a part of the real world.

I definitely got to experience that last night and I’m so grateful for the chance to be there with all of you. I’m hearing great things about the other locations as well, by the way!!

I received two emails, side by side this week: One was reporting the passing of one of my students, a 25 year graduate student who died from a brain tumor early Thursday morning; the second was about the enthusiasm of the Gathering Bible study near AU.

The connection to me is really touching. I am so blessed by what God is doing through the college ministry at Mason and around DC. If anyone were remotely tempted to think for a second that college ministry holds any less impact than a trip overseas, be encouraged.
As I write, tens of thousands of new students are in summer mode, soon to descend on our campuses around town from all over the world.
I am so thankful for each member who supports the Gathering ministry and its awesome impact, life-changing role on our campuses. George Mason, for one, will never be the same. My alma mater, Carnegie Mellon just opened its new campus in DC.

    Thanks Gathering!
