The Goal

“But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” – 1 Timothy 1:5 (NASB)

It’s good for me to step back every once in a while and remind myself there really is a goal and a purpose to all this Bible study we talk about in the church. There really is a reason. There really is something God wants to do in each our our lives through the study of His Word – whether that’s by listening to a talk at church or studying the Scriptures on our own.

He wants to grow this thing we call love inside each of our hearts.

Is that what you come to His Word for? Or do you come to get some impressive theology? Do you come to satisfy a religious duty? Do you come so you can win the argument with your roommate? Do you come because you just can’t imagine not?

Or do you come that God can do something supernatural in your heart and make you more like Christ?

Powerful questions. Especially when you see what gives rise to the kind of love God is aiming at – a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith. God’s love isn’t cheap emotion. It’s deeply rooted in character, holiness and integrity.

Come to Him today asking Him for that in your life. I promise it will rearrange the course of your day.
