The Reward, Part 3

When we choose to obey the commands of God, we find the most unbelievable reward imaginable. See if it leaps out at you from the passage:

“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him…If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.”

- Jesus of Nazareth in John 14: 21, 23

I will disclose Myself to him…We will make Our abode with him.” The reward is Christ Himself. A better, purer, more complete knowledge of His will, His character and His heart for the world. Intimacy with God that is so constant, personal and life altering that Jesus describes it as God making His abode with us.

You sit today with the invitation of Revelation 3:20 open wide in front of you, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” Those words were written to the church, by the way. They’re for all of us. The Lord Christ wanting to come and make His abode with us. In a real, personal, one on One kind of way.

It’s stunning what we get when we choose obedience. But let me leave you with a question – are you delighted or disappointed by the reward? Were you hoping for something else? Prosperity, wealth, a promotion, fame, power? Or do you see it – Jesus Christ outshining all of those combined? I pray you do. Don’t let the distractions of the world cause the Reward to lose His appeal in your eyes.
